As catalysts of countryside economic development, rural banks play a vital role in extending financial support to small and medium enterprises. Malarayat Rural Bank, Inc. has faithfully upheld this mandate throughout the years.

Early in 1956, recognizing the inadequate credit facilities and limited financial services available to the people of Lipa and its surrounding towns and communities, a group of prominent residents of Lipa laid the groundwork for what is now known as Malarayat Rural Bank, Inc. —an institution widely recognized in Lipa City, the Province of Batangas, and within the Rural Banking System.

The bank began operations on March 26, 1956. In July 1959, it opened an extension office at Fernando Air Base, becoming the first and only bank to establish an extension office within Lipa City at that time. In 1966, majority ownership of Malarayat Rural Bank was transferred by Dr. Segismundo to the late Doña Julieta Olaguivel, who later passed on her shareholdings to the Pasia and Morada families, who became the bank’s major stockholders.

Today, the bank is headed by Ms. Marilou O. Adea, Chairman of the Board; Mr. Antonio O. Pasia, President; and Ms. Aniceta O. Pasia, Senior-Vice President, who oversees the day-to-day operations of the bank.

At the heart of the bank’s services are micro, small, and medium enterprises, whose capital needs are supported through dedicated financing programs. Guided by market demands, the loan portfolio has expanded to include individuals requiring financing for housing, consumption, and other personal needs. Agri-Agra loans remain a vital component of the bank’s offerings, particularly in branches where agriculture is the primary livelihood of the communities served.

At present, Malarayat Rural Bank operates eleven branches across the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, and Naga, including San Pascual (Batangas), Tuy (Batangas), San Juan (Batangas), Malvar (Batangas), Sto. Tomas (Batangas), Calamba (Laguna), Lipa City, Naga (Bicol Region), Talisay (Batangas), Tanauan (Batangas), and Taysan (Batangas).
